The following tips and tricks will help you navigate back-to-school time with ease and set yourself up for a successful start to the 2023-24 school year. Keep reading to find out more.

1. Meal Prep for the First Week of School

Back-to-School Meal Prep

This tip may not have anything to do with your classroom, but it will make your life a whole lot easier during the first week back at school. Take some time at the end of summer break to prepare meals for your first week back. Prep your favorite wholesome, tasty dinners and put them in the freezer. When you come home exhausted at the end of the school day, dinner will be ready in a snap. You can also think through and prepare easy breakfast and lunch items too. Your future self will be glad you did. 😉

2. Prepare Easy, No-Fuss Morning Work

Morning Work Activities

There’s no reason why morning work can’t start the first week back to school. Get your class into a morning work routine by providing grade-level-appropriate skill review packets. Check out the Super Teacher Worksheets Math Buzz daily math review series, which includes a worksheet for every day of the school year or our daily word problem series. You may even want to get started with the Super Teacher Worksheets spelling series, which includes plenty of fun, educational activities in each weekly spelling unit. Morning work during the first week of school helps students get into a predictable routine to start the school day and gives you a chance to greet new students and parents with minimal distractions. Providing a pencil along with the morning work packets on the first day helps too.

3. Simplify Your Bulletin Board

When it comes to decorating your bulletin board, save time and keep it simple. Colorful plastic table cloths, brightly-colored tissue paper, or even butcher paper make an easy and inexpensive backdrop. Consider asking your students to decorate 3”x5” index cards with your current theme in mind, and use them as a border. Showcase student work on your bulletin board throughout the year, and you will always have fresh new content without having to plan extravagant themes, unless that’s something you really enjoy.

4. Create Student Folders for Essential Information

Classroom Organization Tools

This teacher hack is simple but very effective. Stock up on folders—one for each student in your class—and use them to store essential information about each child. Include key information like IEPs, medical and allergy information, and learning preferences, as you discover more about your students throughout the year. You’ll have the most important facts you need to know about each student in your class right at your fingertips when you need it.

5. Record School Events in Your Teacher Planner

Teacher Planner Organization Tips

Here’s a tip that will help you keep your calendar organized all school year long. Print out your school’s annual calendar of events and write every significant school event in your lesson plan book. This way you can be sure your own classroom activities don’t conflict with school-wide or district-wide events.

We hope these teacher hacks help you get the new school year off to a great start! You can count on Super Teacher Worksheets to provide the inspiration and educational content you count on for the 2023-24 school year.
